Ever wonder why your phone always turns on when you simultaneously pick it up and place it in your pocket? You may consider yourself to be a genius, but the answer is much simpler than you think: This is because during charging, small amounts of electric current run through metallic contacts in the power jack. Since phones are largely made of metal, they're susceptible to this current and thus turn on or off when put into contact with each other. Your battery will continue operating for a while after the phone has been placed back in its case. Here's a quick demonstration for you to prove the point:(Footnote: If you don't have a spare phone to do this with, or if your phone is not a smartphone, the effect is similar. Try holding a paper clip or any metallic object near an adjacent metal object, such as those above.) As well as turning on and off, you can also make it ring without even picking up the phone by placing it in your pocket. If the device is charging (i.e., plugged into its manufacturer's charger), it will remain on and continue charging; if not, it will turn off and/or stop charging. Power jacks may be different from model to model. This phenomenon is also known as 'phone ringing', and can be demonstrated by placing a phone on a table and placing your other hand on top of it. If you wish to make the phone ring without picking up or putting down your phone, you can do by holding the phone itself against your ear. Even then, you can still make the phone ring by placing it in your pocket.)Reset your phone by turning it off, switching it back on again while holding down the volume "up" button. This may not work on all phones.To make a phone ring without using any power, check if it has a vibrate mode. Try just slightly shaking or tapping the phone against something that is metal. If no noise is heard, try the same thing again with the vibrate option switched on. This may not work on all phones. For phones without a call or vibration option, connect it to a charger/USB port or plug it into its power adapter. You should then be able to ring the phone by lightly tapping it against something that is metal. If this doesn't work, try holding the phone against your ear.If you're female, you can use your bra as an alternative. Many bras are made of metal, so if you place your mobile phone underneath one, you can make it ring by tapping its surface against your breastbone.
